If you love anything I reccomend you, you will simply adore ‘Maria’.
It is a visual feast, a compassionate and beautiful symphony of moments from the Diva’s life, a musical tapestry, an uplifting and empowering narrative, and did I mention it was GORGEOUS to look at?
Angelina Jolie stars as Callas, in her most poised and nuanced role to date. It is hard not to fall in love with her strength and wit, and root for her even in her darkest moments. The camera adores her, surrounding her with the most beautiful framing, the most flattering and romantic lighting, the sunsets of Paris, the autumn leaves, and oh, the music!
If I were a betting woman, this is the perfomance of the year. Aside from this, Larraín for Best Director, and a win for Best Screenplay (I don’t know if it counts as Adapted).
The crowning jewel of the LFF programme, to be sure.
