Oh, the price of pop music!
Queens of Drama is a glittery, colourful, camp 2000’s fever dream, an ode to standom culture in it’s infancy, the toxicity of fame, the lure of pop culture. All wrapped up in a Lesbian love story for the ages - truthful, raunchy and imperfect.
The visuals are simply stunning, and the aesthetic understanding and tongue-in-cheek humour of it all was a welcome take on the retro-millenium nostalgia that is starting to creep into all art forms right now.
The historic and ongoing interplay between the pop starlet and Lesbianism, Sapphic undertones, or even overtones, and queerness at large, have never been more expertly platformed.
And yet - a great, light-humoured film for a night in. Maybe don’t watch with your mother, unless she’s gonna get really comfortable with some things really quickly.
