It's pertinent to say that this show, in all its glory and glitter and madness, is very much a story about the coming of age of Paris Lees in 2000's Nottingham. Having seen two episodes, I can tell you this much...

It is the story of a trans woman (though, in the show, Byron is still going by he/him-ish pronouns) - but it's also the story of what it takes to find your true family, living in the UK when you don't live in London, the realities of our country and culture - beautiful and terrible in good measure. It's a working class fairytale - a wide-eyed, sharp young girl makes it out of the quiet, sleepy town, and finally finds out how the "cool kids" live.

My life couldn't have been father in the specifics from Paris' if I tried, and yet, there were two ineffable things that made this show my home – a gorgeous homage to growing up in the 2000's here (the music, the culture, the fashion, the Football Mug we all got free with those Crunchy Nut Vouchers, was it?), and that universal queer experience of knowing the party is going on without you, somewhere, you're sure, but it needs to find you first.

This is a show that will be a lifeline and a pool float for a lot of people drowning right now - of course - but one way this show is going to endure is through the unique and absolutely mind-blowingly creative way the show is shot, edited and written. This is British storytelling talent at its finest - BAFTA's across the board!

This is like if Euphoria was real, truthful, honest, tempered, focused, refined. This is like if "I May Destroy You" was trans, and more working class, and in Nottingham, and somehow even more fantastical and magical. This is something all of it's own - something new, and different, and spiritual - that will be inspiring artists for generations to come.

The performances are all incredibly strong, but it's Paris' story - her core - that drives every millimetre of this engine. A triumph for all.

You can binge it now on iPlayer (like I will, the moment I'm not working!).
