Two nurses, seemingly two generations of thought and approach, making it work in Mumbai.
In what I can only describe as the most lusciously romantic film in a long while, ‘All We Imagine As Light’ is at once both patient and quick, diving us headfirst into the interior worlds of the two leads - one pining for a husband she hardly knew, who now works abroad; the other, hiding a secret romance with a Muslim boy that her Hindu parents cannot know anything about.
Nothing terrible or tragic happens in the runtime, which is why I can be so effusive in my reccomendation - this is a heartwarming film in the most grounded way it can be, with a touch of magical realism to top it off. Shot with the most beautiful care, you feel you’ve lived a different life for two hours, in the late night lights of Mumbai, and then out at the beach near the end.
There is no need to explain the plot further - you are going to love spending time there, with Prabha and Anu, and perhaps not want to leave. This is for the romantics, the tired women, the shy girls, the ones who want to start again, the ones who want to live the one life they have.
The film comes out 29th November in the UK. Keep an eye out for it.
