Ghost Story! It’s actually a ghost story you guys, fair warning!

Adapted from the August Wilson play, ‘The Piano Lesson’ is theatre. There are no subtle performances, which would be entirely against the format of the material, which demands strong and robust emotional expression of all kinds - which it gets in spades. No-one let the side down, everybody ate.

The agility and speed of Malcom Washington’s camera is a welcome departure from an otherwise one-location, theatreical staging of the material within the set. On top of this, he has a handle on how to build and imply tension in a way that truly terrifies.

Happy Halloween, Black People!
